Given the media hype of the last 25 years you’d certainly think so, but the long history of pit bulls in the U.S. tells a shockingly different story.
The dog so dangerous it must now be legislated against served in the White House under Teddy Roosevelt as America’s First Dog for eight years, but that has to be a fluke, right? Except, Woodrow Wilson also owned one.
…and Jimmy Carter owned one as a boy.
How could three Presidents and their families be so fooled? They certainly weren’t alone.
The list of “stupid” Americans with family pit bulls includes Thomas Edison and Mark Twain. John Steinbeck and Laura Ingalls Wilder also owned them as did and do a long list of “crazy” celebrities like:
Michael J. Fox
and Mary Tyler Moore.
For God’s sake, Mary Tyler Moore has a pit bull!
